Cluster III on the area of Finance and technology is a follow up to the High-Level Event in May 2020 on Initiative on Financing for the Development in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond (FFDI), convened by the United Nations Secretary-General and the Prime Ministers of Canada and Jamaica. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) was mandated to coordinate this cluster, with the Division on Technology and Logistics (DTL) taking responsibility for the technology dimension of the cluster.
In August 2021, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, shared her note on the next steps of the initiative. The emphasis is to be on national-level implementation, with the aim of generating tangible results that will support the 27 pilot countries in ending the pandemic, recovering swiftly, and investing in a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future.
Against this backdrop, Cluster III has identified selected pilot countries where joint activities and events could be organized under the umbrella of Cluster III and FFD Initiative, namely Jordan, Samoa, Senegal, and Zambia. The side event will bring together, at working level, Cluster III Partners, Member States, and UN Country Team in the pilot countries, to implement FFDI activities in more coordinated manners.
Objectives
The side event will gather Cluster III partners to discuss country level implementation with the UN Country Team from selected pilot countries, namely Jordan, Zambia, Samoa, and Senegal. More specifically, the objectives of this side event is to:
