UNCTAD Regional Workshop: Seizing the Low-carbon Investment Opportunity in Africa

06 - 08 novembre 2013
Durban
, Afrique du Sud

UNCTAD will organize a three-day regional workshop for African Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) on the promotion of low-carbon FDI.

The workshop will be hosted by Trade & Investment Kwalazulu-Natal (TIKZN) in Durban, South Africa.

The workshop is the first in a series of regional and national activities under a new UN Development Account project that will help developing country IPAs to promote foreign direct investment (FDI) in green sectors.

The project, which is executed by the Investment Promotion Section (IPS) of UNCTAD’s Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE), will also include publications and a dedicated website.

The objective of the workshop is to enhance the understanding among IPAs of the global business opportunities for low-carbon FDI, drivers behind these investments, enabling policies that would set a conducive investment framework, and strategies for promoting green sectors.

Renewable energy, new investment in cleantech as well as the greening of existing industries will be at the core of the discussions.

The workshop will bring together industry experts, representatives of international organizations, business executives, policy makers and investment promoters from African IPAs. Participation is by invitation only.

In September, UNCTAD will send out invitations to IPAs in Africa. For more information,
