Lotus Building
Location

Body

UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC), is organising a regional workshop to strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island countries to measure digital trade. The workshop introduces the Handbook on Measuring Digital Trade, jointly published in 2023 by the IMF, OECD, UNCTAD, and WTO, and endorsed by the UN Statistical Commission in 2024. The Handbook provides an internationally agreed framework for compiling digital trade statistics and showcases real-world experiences from countries already engaged in this work.

Digital trade and e-commerce are expanding rapidly, offering Pacific Island countries new opportunities to access global markets. Reliable data is essential to inform policies that maximise benefits and address emerging challenges. The workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of digital trade concepts, strengthen their ability to identify and use relevant data sources, and raise awareness of available technical assistance to support the development of digital trade statistics.

Participants have been nominated by National Statistics Offices from the following countries: Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands.

The workshop is being delivered under the Pacific Digital Economy Programme a joint initiative of UNCTAD, UNDP, and UNCDF.
