Are blockchains, or distributed ledger technologies, a short-lived trend or a real technological revolution? Blockchains allow "value" to be transferred over the Internet at a residual cost. A direct consequence is the possible removal of all intermediaries. Are we moving towards a direct relationship between citizens and central banks?
