Myanmar UN Cluster: Enhancing horticulture supply and sustainable tourism to develop business linkages

With the financial support of the Government of Switzerland, UNCTAD and other members of the United Nations Inter-Agency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity (ITC, ILO, UNOPS, UNIDO) are working with the Government of Myanmar on upgrading in the horticulture and sustainable tourism industries as well as building business linkages between the two.

The project is being implemented in the region surrounding Inle Lake in Shan State, where 70% of the population relies on agriculture. Responsible tourism is growing in this region because of its cultural and religious sites, diverse landscapes, and accessibility via its waterways.

Through its gender component, the project identifies constraints and opportunities faced by women in both the horticultural and tourism sectors of the Inle Lake area.

By strengthening the capacity of stakeholders and policymakers to formulate policies that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, the project aims to foster the growth of gender-inclusive and sustainable business linkages between the agriculture and tourism sectors.
