At various times she was a member of Boards of Directors of Kazakh financial institutions, including Kazakhstan Stock Exchange JSC (KASE).
Dr. Dereje Alemayehu is the Executive Coordinator of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ), a global coalition for tax justice that was recently nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize.
Prior to GATJ, Dereje has served as the founding chair of Tax Justice Network Africa (2008-2016), as well as Senior Economic Justice Advisor at Christian Aid. He also worked as Christian Aid’s Country Manager for East Africa for 15 years. Before joining the CSO sector, he worked as a Lecturer at the Free University Berlin from 1987-98. He holds an MA in Development Studies and PhD in Economics from the same university.
Fabianna Alexander is the CEO of ASPIRE Foundation (Barbados) Inc., a philanthropic non-profit organisation seeking to redefine regional philanthropy and build the sustainability of non-profits that change lives in Barbados and the Caribbean. Over the last five years, she served as the Programme Director of ASPIRE (Barbados) where she worked to pilot an innovative civic sector Incubator Programme and Quality Standards for the not-for-profit sector.
She has 14+ years’ experience working in the social sector, and her expertise includes social sector capacity development, strategic management, and non-profit governance.


On 13 April 2017, the Secretary-General appointed Ms Olga Algayerova of Slovakia as the next Executive Secretary of the UNECE. She took office on 1 June 2017.
Ms. Algayerova brings to the position a combination of leadership and diplomatic skills with deep knowledge of the region with its challenges and opportunities and a strong focus on building and nurturing partnerships among key stakeholders with the United Nations. Prior to her appointment, she served as Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the International Organizations in Vienna, Austria (since 2012). She was previously President, Slovak Millennium Development Goals (2010-2012); State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2010) and Corporate Export Manager, Zentiva International, a.s. (2004-2006).
Born in 1959, Ms. Algayerova holds a Master in Contemporary Diplomacy from Malta University, a Master in Business Administration from The Open University Business School, United Kingdom and a Dipl. in Engineer of Economy from the University of Economics Business Faculty, Bratislava.
Emma Algotsson is the founder and project lead of Catchgreen, a South African startup and collaborative research initiative tackling marine sustainability. Under her leadership, Catchgreen has pioneered the development of specialized marine compounds and executed successful fishing net trials—including pilot programs in Kenya focused on seaweed farming and gear exchange. These innovations directly address critical challenges such as abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear (ALDFG), ghost fishing, and ocean plastic pollution.
With over eight years of experience in the trade and manufacturing of biodegradable and compostable plastics, Emma is also the founder of the South African Compostable Plastics Council (COPCO). COPCO advocates for the compostable plastics industry, promoting alignment with international certification standards and driving sustainable product innovation.
Emma holds an M.Phil from the University of Cambridge and a CPE in Law from City, University of London. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to creating solutions that serve both the planet and its people.

Fatima Alhajari is a seasoned expert in media and communication, serving as the Chief of Staff and Head of Media & Communication at AlRushaid Group in Al Khobar. She oversees communication initiatives, advocates for the company brand, and collaborates with marketing teams to shape effective advertising and promotion strategies. Previously, Fatima was an International Affairs Advisor to the Vice Minister at the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in Saudi Arabia. There, she led regulatory affairs and facilitated strategic global partnerships in the mining sector. Her role as Secretary-General at the US
Saudi Arabian Business Council honed her skills in managing organizational strategy and fostering international business relations.
Fatima holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from King Faisal University. She has completed executive programs at Prince Mohammad Bin Salman College, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Harvard Business School, focusing on leadership, strategic management, and social media strategy. Additionally, she is certified by the Capital Market Authority and is a member of The Chief of Staff Association.

Eng. Nawal Alhanaee is currently working as Director of Future energy dept. in Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure - Dubai. She is the deputy head of the happiness and wellbeing team and member innovation team in the ministry. She was involved in the Municipality affairs and projects since 2003, and she was as the Head of building section in 2006. In addition, she was as the head of building section and building material laboratory in 2008. After that, she was as the Director of project dept. in 2011 and she worked as Director of Engineering & Land dept. & head of building section from 2012 until 2017 and her work experience is 15 years in FM.
She is certified ICF coach and she holds a Public Sector Innovation Diploma from Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation. In addition to that I’m Certified Innovation Strategist (CInS) from GINI and I hold training course for Future Foresight from the Saïd Business School (Oxford Saïd).
She is a PhD candidate in British University of Dubai in the Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment (ASBE) program. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the UAE University and she holds a master’s degree of urban planning from American University of Sharjah. Her area of specialty is Transportation, and she has experience and contributions in making strategic plans and studies for the improvement of public and customer services, managing big projects and environmental protection, as she is one of the core team in Fujairah 2040 master plan.

Saleem H. Ali is Chair of the Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences and the Blue & Gold Distinguished Professor of Energy and the Environment at the University of Delaware (USA). He was appointed by UN Secretary General as a member of Advisory board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste.
Prof. Ali previously served as chair in Sustainable Resource Development and professor of sustainability science and policy at University of Queensland (Australia) and was founding director of the Institute for Environmental Diplomacy and Security at the University of Vermont (USA). He has previously held appointments at The Brookings Institution, The Watson Institute for International Studies, and the United Nations mandated University for Peace (Costa Rica).
Prof. Ali's primary research interests have been in the causes and consequences of environmental conflicts in the mineral sector, and the process of using ecological factors to promote peace. Before embarking on an academic career, Prof. Ali worked as an environmental health and safety professional at General Electric Corporation. His laurels include being a National Geographic Explorer, with field experience in more than 160 countries; being selected as a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum and serving on the boards of notable non-profit charitable organizations including RESOLVE, Adventure Scientists and Mediators Beyond Borders International.
Prof. Ali received his doctorate in Environmental Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), an M.E.S. in environmental law and policy from Yale University, and his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (summa cum laude) from Tufts University.

H.E. Mr Abbas Aliabadi was appointed Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran in June 2023.
Previously, Aliabadi served as the CEO of MAPNA Group, Iran’s largest contractor for steam, gas and combined cycle and renewable power plants, for over 15 years.
He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Tehran’s Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology in Tehran.
