Review of the technical cooperation activities of UNCTAD and their financing

For its consideration of this item, the Working Party will have before it the Report of the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, which deals with activities undertaken in 2016.

The report contains analytical information on the different sources of financing for the technical cooperation activities of UNCTAD, the allocation of technical cooperation resources by type of project and by region and an updated overview of the structure and functioning of UNCTAD technical cooperation.

Evaluation of UNCTAD activities

1. Evaluation of UNCTAD activities: Overview

   For its consideration of this item, the Working Party will have before it the report of the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, which presents findings from evaluations conducted between April 2016 and April 2017.

   The report contains the main messages and recommendations from each evaluation, which may be helpful in informing the assessment, design and future implementation of UNCTAD projects and programmes.

   The report also highlights lessons learned, addressed specifically to management and programme managers, when planning and implementing projects and programmes.

   The Working Party will also be invited to review and approve an evaluation plan, discuss how to better support evaluations at UNCTAD, including funding-related issues and submit its conclusions and recommendations to the Trade and Development Board.

2. External evaluation of UNCTAD subprogramme 4: Technology and logistics

   The evaluation report has been prepared by an independent evaluation team, who will present their findings, conclusions and recommendations to the Working Party for its consideration.
