UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will have a strong presence at the 9th Aid for Trade Global Review, held from 26 to 28 June at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

This pivotal event will bring together trade and development policymakers, including ministers, heads of international organizations, and experts, to review progress and explore strategies to better integrate developing economies into global trade.

Leadership in key moments

Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan will participate in a high-level session on 27 June to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the International Trade Centre and celebrate Micro-, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Day.

Deputy Secretary-General Pedro Manuel Moreno will take part in the opening-day high-level session on the untapped trade potential of the world's least developed countries (LDCs). The session will gather global leaders to analyze the progress made by WTO members in strengthening LDCs' trade capacities and integrating them into international value chains.

Sessions led by UN Trade and Development

During the event, UN Trade and Development will organize or co-organize several key sessions.

On the opening day, a session will focus on leveraging trade and investment policies to help countries to meet their commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. Another session on the same day will explore new methods to quantifying flows between developing countries, known as South-South cooperation.

On June 27, UN Trade and Development and its partners will lead sessions on positioning trade at the core of the LDC development agenda and empowering women in digital trade.

Expert contributions

UN Trade and Development experts will also participate in various sessions and discussions during the three days.

On opening day, the organization will contribute to sessions on building a trade facilitation strategy for the Pacific region and on increasing inclusive trade opportunities for persons with disabilities.

On 27 June, its experts will also take part in the launch of the UN Trade Digitalization Index, as well as discussions on enhancing digital connectivity for development and the role of inclusive connectivity in driving trade and development.

On the final day, the organization will contribute to discussions about "Blue Futures", focusing on integrating trade from the blue economy into national development strategies for African small island developing states and coastal nations.

UN Trade and Development's strong participation in the 9th Aid for Trade Global Review underscores its commitment to advancing trade as a tool for sustainable and inclusive development and integrating developing economies into the global trade system.
