A data validation mission of UNCTAD's DMFAS Programme took place at the Ministry of Finance of Lao PDR (MoF) from 22 April to 10 May 2024 within the framework of a DMFAS 6 upgrade project, financed by the World Bank.
The mission reviewed the existing debt data validation procedures that resulted from the validation workshop held remotely in March 2022. During the mission, the DMFAS trainer assisted the different units of the debt office in implementing the validation checks.
As a result of the workshop ,17 participants were trained in data validation and learned how to identify and correct errors and omissions in the database.
Errors present in the debt database that were identified during the workshop were corrected with the support of the trainer. Additionally, the participants updated information on various instruments and brought up to date relevant debt service operations. They also produced a set of data validation reports and a validation calendar which will be applied on a continuous basis by debt management officers to keep the existing debt database free of errors or omissions.
An additional outcome of the mission was the upgrade to the latest DMFAS 6 release, DMFAS 6.2, facilitated by the trainer and with the remote support of the DMFAS helpdesk.
An advanced functional training is scheduled to take place in November to further the debt managers’ knowledge in DMFAS recording, reporting and analysis functionalities.
