We have received the sad news that Enrique Cosio-Pascal, former Chief of the DMFAS Programme, passed away in New York during the weekend.
Enrique was a founding member of the Programme in 1981 and served as Chief of DMFAS from 1988 until his retirement in 2001. He also served for a short period as Chief of the Debt & Development Finance Branch. After his retirement, he continued to support UNCTAD’s work on debt and the DMFAS Programme specifically as a senior consultant and advisor. He also worked as a consultant for many organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Interamerican Development Bank, the African Development Bank and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). He maintained a strong interest in the DMFAS Programme and was a strong and vocal supporter of our work.
I consider Enrique as the ‘father’ of the DMFAS Programme and I believe that he is the person who has had the biggest positive influence on our Programme during our almost 40 years history.
Enrique, you will be greatly missed by all of us who had the chance to know you! We are proud to continue your legacy.
