Training for upgrading the Debt-IFMIS interface in Ethiopia

Version française - Versión española

A technical assistance project is ongoing between the Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation (MoFEC) of Ethiopia and UNCTAD, funded by the World Bank, aimed at strengthening debt management and Public Finance Management capacity.

A key element of the project is the upgrade of the interface between DMFAS and the Treasury’s integrated financial management information system (IFMIS). This interface, developed by the Ministry IT experts, with the support of DMFAS experts, enables automated payment orders and subsequent confirmation of external debt servicing.

To support the work of the Ethiopian experts, a technical training was organized in December 2021 in Geneva. Its objective was to build a comprehensive understanding of the DMFAS system architecture and web services for interface development and maintenance.  The acquired new knowledge will enable the Ministry to further strengthen and enhance the interface to also generate payments for debt securities. The opportunity to conduct the training in-person was warmly welcomed by all after more than a year of travel restrictions due to covid-pandemic restrictions.
