United Nations General Assembly adopts new framework for international consumer protection

Consumer rights have been boosted with the adoption of revised United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection by the United Nations General Assembly on 22 December 2015. With this update, member States have agreed to put UNCTAD at the centre of global consumer protection.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus the revised United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection, entrusting UNCTAD with a new mandate, on 22 December 2015.

A training needs assessment of consumer rights professionals in Malaysia has been carried out by UNCTAD experts in cooperation with the Malaysian Tribunal for Consumer Claims of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK).
