Jörg Mayer is a Senior Economist at the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) where he is part of the team that prepares UNCTAD's annual Trade and Development Report.
Before joining the United Nations, he was an economist in the International Department of the German central bank. He was Special Advisor to UNCTAD's Secretary General in 2015-2016 and a Visiting Fellow with the Department of International Development at Oxford University in 2020.
He has published widely on economic issues, including in the Review of World Economics, the World Economy, the Cambridge Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Development Studies. He holds a Ph.D. degree in economics from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
