The Regional Office for Africa, situated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, advances UNCTAD's work in support of African countries and their people to benefit from the global economy.
It facilitates the organization's trade and development initiatives dedicated to promoting sustainable development and fostering inclusive economic growth across Africa, including supporting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The office is located within the UN Economic Commission for Africa premises, Congo Building, Fourth Floor, on Menelik II Avenue in Addis Ababa.

Technical assistance:
The Addis Ababa office supports UNCTAD’s technical assistance for the benefit of key stakeholders and partners on the continent, including the African Union Commission, the AfCFTA Secretariat, regional economic communities, countries, among others.
It supports African governments to accelerate regional economic integration, make their economies more productive, tackle debt crises, enhance value addition in commodity trade, promote sustainable investments and address the diverse economic challenges they face to drive economic growth and improve lives across the continent.
Partnerships:
The office collaborates with various African-based stakeholders, including governments, regional economic communities, the private sector, civil society, international development partners and academia to shape trade and development policies adapted to the needs and circumstances of African countries.
Amid multiple global crises, the office is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the continent's response to interconnected challenges and leverage partnerships to foster a resilient and inclusive economic future for Africa.
Communication and outreach:
The office also serves as the focal point for communication and ongoing engagement with Permanent Missions in Addis Ababa and various stakeholders based across Africa.
It promotes UNCTAD’s work across Africa by disseminating key messages from the organization’s main reports, publications, research products and projects, and highlighting priority issues for the continent’s development.
It also organizes events with partners and mobilizes resources to support priority initiatives and projects such as the AfCFTA and various UNCTAD-developed tools.
