Trade Wars: The Pain and the Gain

Geneva, Switzerland, 1 February 2019

Amid tit for tat tariff hikes, trade is being diverted and a handful of countries will capture a slice of the giants’ exports, UNCTAD estimates in a new publication titled Key Statistics and Trends in Trade Policy 2018.

With trade wars topping the news agenda, UNCTAD looks at the repercussions of existing US and Chinese tariff hikes, as well as the effects of the next increase scheduled for 1 March. Who’s feeling the pain and who’s seeing gains? And what does the ongoing wrangling mean for developing countries.

A press conference is scheduled on Monday 4 February at 2 pm in press room 1 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Journalists having access to the UNCTAD virtual newsroom may download the press release and the new UNCTAD study.

Access to the virtual newsroom requires a password. To obtain one, please fill out the form online.
