The State of Qatar and UNCTAD sign a grant agreement to support the capacity of UNCTAD programme on the Assistance to Palestinian people

​Building on the Doha Mandate of UNCTAD XIII Conference which took place in 2012 in the State of Qatar, the Qatar Development Fund and UNCTAD signed a grant agreement in the amount of USD 194,000. The signing ceremony took place in the Office of the Secretary-General of UNCTAD.

H.E. Mr. Faisal Abdulla Al-Henzab, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar signed on behalf of the Qatar Development Fund, while UNCTAD's Secretary-General, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, signed on behalf of UNCTAD.

 

The grant extended by Qatar Development Fund will help UNCTAD to provide support to the Palestinian people, and fulfill Paragraph 31.m of the Doha Mandate, which maintains that UNCTAD programme on the Assistance to Palestinian people should: "Continue to assess the economic development prospects of the occupied Palestinian territory and examine obstacles to trade and development, and should strengthen its programme of assistance to the Palestinian people with adequate resources and effective operational activities, as part of the international community's commitment to building an independent Palestinian State, and with a view to alleviating the adverse economic and social conditions imposed on the Palestinian people, in line with the Accra Accord".
