Online capacity-building training for Rwanda government authorities under the project on “Strengthening Consumer Product Safety in Sub-Saharan African Countries”

As part of its technical cooperation activities, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will organize an online capacity-building session for government authorities in Rwanda under the project "Strengthening Consumer Product Safety in Sub-Saharan African Countries", funded by the Government of Japan.

The project aims to support Rwanda in strengthening its consumer product safety framework in response to the country's need to better protect consumers from unsafe goods. It seeks to assist the Government in developing effective and efficient regulatory systems, strengthening institutional capacity and raising stakeholder awareness to reduce risks associated with hazardous products.

The online training will provide relevant government authorities in Rwanda with an overview of the core elements of an effective consumer product safety system. It will introduce international principles, including the United Nations Principles for Consumer Product Safety, as well as practical approaches to developing and implementing legal and institutional frameworks that protect consumers from unsafe products.

Through presentations, discussions and practical case studies, participants will explore how these principles and approaches can be applied in the Rwandan context and how effective coordination among relevant authorities can strengthen the prevention, detection and management of product safety risks.
