Dissemination of UNCTAD's Voluntary Peer Review on Consumer Protection Law and Policy of Chile

13 - 14 January 2022
09:00-18:00
Santiago de Chile
, Chile

The Voluntary Peer Review on Consumer Protection Law and Policy of Chile was conducted at the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy on 5 and 6 July 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland, under the auspices of UNCTAD and the leadership of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism and the National Consumer Service (SERNAC) of Chile.

UNCTAD and SERNAC are hosting a series of public and private events in Santiago de Chile to disseminate the findings and recommendations emanating from the review and to raise awareness among stakeholders on the impact that those recommended actions can have in improving consumer policies and welfare. The ultimate goal is to support policy and institutional reform and to strengthen consumer protection in the country.

The dissemination events include meetings with the Chilean Constitutional Assembly, Government, consumer and business associations and the media. UNCTAD will be accompanied by high-ranking officials of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and from the United States Federal Trade Commission, who served as Chile’s peer reviewers.
