Fourth COMPAL Workshop on Competition and Consumer Protection: digital markets

​In the framework of UNCTAD's COMPAL Programme, UNCTAD is organizing the third workshop on competition and consumer protection. This edition focuses on digital markets, and will bring together officials from 12 countries to discuss the interaction between the two fields.
 
UNCTAD's COMPAL Programme targets regional integration among its sixteen Latin American members on competition and consumer protection matters. A very successful initiative is to bring together high ranking officials of member agencies and those of more advanced agencies (namely, Spain, the United States and Switzerland) to discuss the investigative techniques in different areas of daily work for the agency. This event is co-organized with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Consumer Protection Agency (ADC) and the Competition Agency (CDPC) of Uruguay and the Spanish Cooperation Agency (AECID).


The Fourth Workshop on Competition and Consumer Protection: digital markets will be divided in three workshops for competition and three parallel ones for consumer protection. The conclusions of the workshops will be shared in plenaries. The workshops will be followed by one roundtables to discuss the impact that digital markets have on competition and consumer protection.
 
The event aims at providing a platform for competition and consumer protection agencies to discuss areas of common interest, identify synergies and exchange best practices
 
Participating countries are: Argentina, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador,  Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Spain, Switzerland Uruguay, and the United States.
