Geneva presentation of the Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2022

The 2022 Financing for Sustainable Development Report, issued by the Secretary-General's Inter-Agency Task Force on Financing for Development, examines how unfavourable financing terms, such as high borrowing costs and debt overhangs, prevent developing counties from responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and investing in sustainable development, and what can be done to enable countries to achieve the SDGs.

UNCTAD is one of the main stakeholders of the IATF and mainly contributes to four chapters in the report:

  • Chapter III. B Domestic and international private business and finance
  • Chapter III.D International trade as an engine for development,
  • Chapter III. E Debt and debt sustainability,
  • Chapter III. G Science, technology, innovation and capacity building

The Geneva presentation of the FSDR 2022 will focus on these four chapters and present to the audience their main messages and recent updates.

Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD and Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations will make opening remarks, followed by presentations from panellists.

Panelists:

  • Miho Shirotori, Head, Trading Systems, Services and Creative Economy will intervene on trade
     
  • Stephanie Blankenburg, Head, Debt and Development Finance will intervene on debt
     
  • Angel Gonzalez-Sanz, Head, Science, Technology and ICT with intervene on Science, Technology and Innovation
     
  • Amelia Santos-Paulino, Chief, Investment Research will intervene on Business Finance.
     

Attendees will be able to ask questions to the panellists after their presentations.
