UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) provides assistance to the DRC in its efforts to facilitate trade. Since January 2025, UNCTAD has been supporting countries of the EAC region in implementing the Trade Facilitation Agreement (WTO TFA), monitoring and evaluating their trade facilitation measures, with the aim of improving the business climate for economic operators engaged in international trade in East Africa.
The workshop "Launch of the project on the implementation of the TIP and capacity building for the NTFC on the implementation of the WTO TFA" will take place according to the following schedule:
- 10-11 November: Launch of the project on the implementation of the Trade Information Portal (TIP);
- 12-14 November: Trade facilitation capacity building workshop for DRC’s National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC).
The workshop aims to meet the specific needs of the DRC by:
- Presenting the project for the implementation of the TIP according to UNCTAD’s step-by-step methodology, and familiarizing participants with the TIP tool and the documentation modalities of trade procedures.
- Introducing the TIP methodology for simplifying trade procedures.
- Conducting an inventory of existing documentation in the current TIP and developing a documentation action plan accordingly.
- Presenting the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement to the members of the DRC’s NTFC.
- Reviewing the DRC’s progress in implementing TFA measures.
- Mastering the Reform Tracker as a tool for monitoring and evaluating trade facilitation reforms.
The five-day workshop is funded by TradeMark Africa for the first two days and by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF) for the three remaining days; and is jointly organized by the NTFC of the DRC, the East African Community, TradeMark Africa, and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
