ISSB provides training to the Latin American Partnership on IFRS S1 and S2 and Peru is elected as the ARL’s Chair for 2026

The Latin American Partnership for the promotion of sustainability and SDG reporting held its third virtual meeting of the year on 22nd and 23rd September 2025. The meeting was moderated by Ms. Flavia Fernandez from CCEA Uruguay and current Chair of the Partnership. During the first day, Mr. Arturo Rodriguez, Manager for Ibero-American Relationships, ISSB, provided training on IFRS S1 General requirements for the disclosure of sustainability-related financial information and S2 Climate-related disclosures and answered questions from participants. Mr. Rodriguez also presented different materials the ISSB has developed to facilitate the implementation of these standards. He spoke about the roadmap development tool which supports countries to plan their regulatory setting and implement the international sustainability standards; it also provides information about the categorization that would apply to the country depending on whether they add to or modify the requirements. Finally, he also provided information regarding the jurisdictional profiles on the use of the international sustainability reporting standards.

During the second day of the meeting, Ms. Vania Borgerth, representative of the CBPS and IESBA Board member, spoke of the International Ethics Standards for Sustainability Assurance, revisions to existing sustainability reporting standards, and a new standard on using the work of external experts. After this, Ms. Dunia Zamora Solano, President of the PAO in Costa Rica shared her country’s experience in the adoption and implementation of IFRS S1 and S2. She provided information about the different institutions involved in this process, the awareness campaign and the capacity building efforts that the PAO has conducted to facilitate proper implementation of the standards. Then, Ms. Aiblis Vidal, professor of the Faculty of Management and Economic Sciences, explained the activities conducted to ensure that professionals are up to date with international developments in the sustainability reporting area. She spoke of the different institutions that collaborate at the national level and the postgraduate programs available, a certification in sustainability reporting and research they conduct through the sustainability reporting observatory. Afterwards, Ms. Flavia Fernandez, spoke of an exposure draft of a sustainability reporting pronouncement which is currently open for comments. The objective of this pronouncement is to provide a framework to prepare, use and assure sustainability information. It is addressed to professionals working in economic sciences and companies that decide to use it voluntarily. She also provided a summary of the activities conducted by the Partnership during her chairmanship, the topics discussed in the meetings this year and the regional letters prepared in response to consultations on exposure drafts.

The last part of the meeting was dedicated to the election of the new Partnership Chair for 2026. There were two candidatures presented by Ecuador and Peru. After the voting process Peru was elected. Mr. Oscar Nunez, General Director of Public Accounting, MEF Peru will be the new Chair. The meeting was attended by 80 participants (53 women) from 14 countries.
