Pretoria
, South Africa

UNCTAD together with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa, will organize a National Consultative Workshop in relation to the Development Account 11th Tranche Project titled Enabling policy frameworks for enterprise sustainability and SDG reporting in Africa and Latin America.

The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of governments to measure and monitor the private sector contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The project was successfully launched at the kick off meeting that was held in Pretoria in November 2019 with participation of key agencies and stakeholders in the area of corporate reporting. Following the launch of the project, the assessment of the country’s capacity for high-quality corporate reporting has been conducted based on the UNCTAD’s Accounting Development Tool (ADT). The results of the assessment will assist in developing a national action plan for South Africa on enabling high quality and internationally comparable sustainability and SDG reporting by companies.

The objective of the National Workshop is to validate the findings of the implementation of UNCTAD tools, undertake discussions on sustainability and SDG reporting and agree on a preliminary list of gaps, priorities, and recommendations. The workshop will be attended by all key institutions involved in the implementation of the SDGs, as well as institutions involved in financial and non-financial reporting at the national level.
