On the sidelines of the WTO Committee meeting on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), the WTO Secretariat and UNCTAD organize an event on UNCTAD’s recent work on the impact of non-tariff measures.
TBT represent a large share of the incidence and impact of non-tariff measures. While the WTO Agreement on TBT provides many recipes to address the trade impacts of TBT, policy makers are often in the dark about the quantitative impact of their efforts.
UNCTAD’s latest data and research now sheds light on the issue and provides WTO Member States in the TBT Committee with quantitative evidence. The presentation and discussion elaborate on the incidence and impact of TBT as well as on the beneficial effects of good regulatory practice, regulatory transparency, cooperation and convergence.
