Second phase training and capacity building workshop on Structural Economic Transformation Beyond the Graduation of Angola: Conceptual, Methodological and Policy Issues

23 - 25 February 2015
Luanda
, Angola

Building on the high-level workshop organized last year, the forthcoming training workshop is intended to create awareness among the wider audience and stakeholders of key issues related to graduation, opportunities, challenges and the potential of Angola to exit the LDCs' category.

As with the previous workshop, the two planned workshops will address the graduation process; conceptual and methodological issues related to that process; merits and demerits of attaining graduation criteria; and, more specifically, the implications of graduation for Angola. However, while the workshop for training of national trainers (or national experts) will be technical, the second one aimed at the wider stakeholders will focus more on the policy implications of graduation.

The overall objective of the workshop is to create awareness among the key stakeholders on the one hand, and to assist Angola to develop its own local expertise on issues related to graduation and post-graduation challenges, prospects and opportunities for the country.

The two workshops and the one organized in 2013 will have organic linkages and synergies to enable the government of Angola to better articulate the country's development policies and strategies, as well as prospects for further socio-economic progress. This will draw on practical policy lessons from successful experiences and best practices of other countries, with a view to making economic growth an avenue for poverty reduction and improved standards of living for all Angolans. This will also include, among other issues, revisiting the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) in Angola, with a particular focus on mainstreaming the IPoA into national policies and strategies, toward institutional and productive capacity-building.
