South-South cooperation is a manifestation of solidarity among peoples and countries of the South that contributes to their national well-being, their national and collective self-reliance and the attainment of internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation celebrates the economic, social and political developments made in recent years by regions and countries in the south and highlights UN's efforts to work on technical cooperation among developing countries.
The special event will mark 40 years since the adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among developing Countries (BAPA), leading up to the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40) to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 20-22 March 2019.
