Enhancing the "Sustainable Smart Port" status of Tema Port
From 7 to 10 October, UNCTAD will convene stakeholder consultations in Accra and Tema as part of the Sustainable Smart Port (SSP) assessment of Tema Port. Using UNCTAD’s methodology, the assessment evaluates the port’s readiness to:
- Scale up the use, production, distribution of alternative energy sources (renewable energy)
- Enhance energy efficiency.
As an integral part of the methodology, the consultations will begin with bilateral meetings and conclude on Friday, 10 October, with a joint session bringing together all key stakeholders. Their objective is to:
- Discuss and validate preliminary findings of ongoing research
- Collect additional insights to shape recommendations for capacity-building activities and advance SSP reforms
- Ensure that proposed solutions are relevant, practical, and aligned with national priorities for energy transition and port development
Key stakeholders participating in these dialogues include, among others, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Ghana Grid Company, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, Ministry of Transport, Regional Maritime University, shipping lines and terminal operators.
