​UNCTAD to deliver keynote address at the Swiss e-Commerce Conference.

The Information Economy Report 2015: Unlocking the potential of E-Commerce in Developing Countries will be prominently featured at the Swiss e-Commerce Conference organized by NetComm Suisse – the Swiss E-Commerce Association – in Baden, Switzerland, on 25 November 2015.

International speakers and industry players will share their experience and present relevant case studies, in accordance with frontier research. In this context, UNCTAD will share findings of its research, including global and regional trends, the UNCTAD B2C E-Commerce Index which provides data on 130 countries with regard to their e-Commerce readiness. In the 2014 edition, Switzerland featured in 14th position in the UNCTAD index. Special attention will also be given to the UNCTAD Global Cyberlaw Tracker, which maps the legal landscape in the area of electronic transactions, data protection and privacy, cybercrime and consumer protection.

In the Information Economy Report 2015, UNCTAD emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders when designing and implementing e-commerce strategies and policies. Effective multisectoral and interministerial cooperation is necessary in this context. Other stakeholders that should be involved include relevant government regulatory and promotional agencies, the post, national IT or e-commerce associations, chambers of commerce, academia as well as consumer organizations.

UNCTAD will also participate in a focus group discussion on 24 November about the main impediments of e-commerce development in Switzerland and the role of regulations in e-commerce, including cross-border e-commerce in connection with data protection and privacy, security, logistics, online payment, deliveries, custom duties, taxation and VAT issues.
