UNCTAD in cooperation with UNESCAP and UNCITRAL will conduct the TrainForTrade blended learning course on Digital Identity for Trade and Development from 31 May to 2 July 2021, with follow-up webinar organised on 8 July 2021.

OBJECTIVES:
The global objective of the course is to identify and draft policies on digital identity related to trade and development. It includes defining:

  • The limits of data protection and digital identity
  • The scope of digital identity governance
  • The risks and solutions related to digital identity

BACKGROUND:
The first delivery in the ASEAN region in 2019 was attended by over 180 participants from ASEAN member countries. Over 100 participants received certificates. A publication on the topic was produced: Digital Identity for Trade and Development: TrainForTrade case studies in South-East Asia (UNCTAD/DTL/KDB/2020/1).

REGISTRATION:
The registration is open to all relevant policymakers and practitioners from the ASEAN region. We particularly encourage the participation of women. Interested candidates can directly self-register at: https://tft-reg.unctad.org then select “Digital Identity for Trade and Development 2021” and use the access code: 2021DITD.

DESCRIPTION:
This project 1819N of the Development Account Tranche 11 is designed to address challenges and demands in e-commerce development. Although some of ASEAN’s countries have already made great advances in the adoption of e-commerce laws as well as in building national e-commerce ecosystems -Singapore being recognized as the leader in the region in this field-, they are all facing challenges and are looking at ways to strengthen the security of e-commerce users and entrepreneurs’ capabilities to engage in e-commerce. Working with the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia (with a spread to the region at different levels of development) will also allow to learn how policies and standards can facilitate cross-border e-commerce in the region. Each module of the course includes readings, self-assessment activities and quizzes. The learning activities are distributed in such a way to ensure the achievement of the learning objectives in a flexible manner. It has been designed for supporting policymakers and practitioners from both developed and developing countries. Therefore, the six modules and concluding remarks of the course are based on the benefits of promoting policy makers to achieve more inclusive and cohesive societies linked to sustainable development and economic growth. It includes policy objectives and policy options intended to identify different means to support eCommerce among stakeholders; identifies case studies and good practices from policies, programs and initiatives, in developing countries, and; raises awareness through capacity building in order to enhance opportunities to move towards a more inclusive society where no-one is left behind.
