The objective of this course is to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to understand, identify, and analyse non-tariff measures (NTMs) and their role in shaping trade in the Pacific region.

To this end, the course introduces the concept of NTMs and their classification, explores the trade-related challenges and opportunities NTMs present for Pacific countries.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the different types of NTMs and their relevance to trade policy and regulation;
  • Understand the impact of NTMs on market access, compliance, and trade costs in the Pacific context;
  • Identify the sources of NTM data;
  • Use the knowledge acquired to contribute to national or regional efforts to improve transparency and coherence in trade regulation;
  • Support evidence-based policymaking that strengthens Pacific countries’ participation in regional and global trade.

 

The topics covered in this course are central to ongoing trade policy discussions and regulatory reforms in the Pacific. Upon completion, participants will be able to engage in and support efforts to enhance the understanding and governance of NTMs in their countries.
