The OECD Competition Division has invited UNCTAD to participate at the Eleventh meeting of the Latin American Competition Forum and Ibero-American Forum.

UNCTAD has been participating actively in the Latin American Competition Forum (LACF) since its creation in April 2003. This forum is a joint effort to foster effective competition law and policy in Latin America and the Caribbean by the Inter-American Development Bank and OECD.

LACF meetings are held once a year in a Latin American country with the partnership/support of a host competition authority. In 2013, the LACF will hold its 11th meeting with the support of the Peruvian Competition Authority (INDECOPI), founding member of COMPAL.

This year's LACF meeting will have three sessions: The first session will cover the criteria for setting fines for competition law infringements. The Second session will address regional competition agreements and session three will look at unannounced Inspections in Antitrust Investigations. Based on certain experiences, UNCTAD has prepared two written contributions to this year's LACF is regarding sessions I and II. It is envisaged that additional meetings will be held with COMPAL member countries at the margins of the Conference.

The main outcome for UNCTAD is to follow-up on individual projects with COMPAL member countries that will be attending the LACF as well as present its experience during sessions I and II of the Conference.
