The roundtable jointly organized by UNCTAD University of Liverpool Roundtable on the Reform of the International Investment Regime will be held on 18 March 2026 at the Palais des Nations and online.
The roundtable will explore the evolving international investment regime and its implications for sustainable development. It begins with an overview of current challenges and emerging opportunities, followed by a presentation of recent analytical work on investment agreements. The first substantive exchange will examine strategic considerations for modernizing investment treaties, including aligning protections with public interest needs and improving coherence across national and international frameworks. The second exchange will focus on reform strategies that reflect individual countries’ development priorities. The roundtable concludes with reflections on ways to advance a more balanced international investment regime, a topic which will inform the High-level International Investment Conference at the UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2026 (25-27 October, Doha Qatar).
