The study tour is organized by the UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi) at the request of the State University Higher School of Economics (Moscow), the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the St. Petersburg State University, the St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, as well as the North-West Institute (St. Petersburg), as one of the Vi services for its member universities.
During one week, students from the five universities will undergo tailored training on trade and development delivered by UNCTAD’s divisions and programmes, the WTO, the ITC, and the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
The topics covered during the tour will comprise the international financial system, foreign direct investment, technology and innovation, South-South cooperation, trade logistics and trade facilitation, and the role of government in international trade. The programme will also include discussions on the implementation of Russia’s membership to the WTO, a hands-on session on ITC’s market research and analysis tools, and a simulation exercise on FDI.
