Webinar of the UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport 2022 (Latin America and the Caribbean)

Maritime transport is the backbone of international trade and the global economy. Over 80% of the volume of international trade in goods is carried by sea, and the percentage is even higher for most developing countries.

The Review of Maritime Transport is an UNCTAD flagship report, published annually since 1968. It provides an analysis of structural and cyclical changes affecting seaborne trade, ports and shipping, as well as an extensive collection of statistics from maritime trade and transport.

This year's edition of the report includes a special chapter on consolidation and competition issues in the maritime transport sector.

The webinar will present main findings of the 2022 report, to be launched on 29 November, with focus on relevant findings related the Latin American and Caribbean region.

• Session 1: Jan Hoffmann, Head, UNCTAD Trade & Logistics Branch will present key developments in seaborne trade, maritime and port business, and freight rates.

• Session 2: Luisa Rodriguez, Economic Affairs Officer, UNCTAD Trade & Logistics Branch will zoom in on key performance indicators and on consolidation and competition issues in the maritime transport sector.

• Session 3: Pamela Ugaz, Economic Affairs Officer, UNCTAD Trade & Logistics Branch will touch upon trade facilitation, and the necessary legal and regulatory framework to facilitate international maritime trade and transport.
