Workshop for Nigerian private sector and public sector stakeholders on non-tariff measures data collection and AfCFTA non-tariff barriers reporting and elimination.

30 - 31 July 2024
The Palms Hotel
Abuja
, Nigeria

  1. Non-Tariff Measures Data Collection in Nigeria

The lack of transparency on trade-related regulatory requirements adds major costs to doing business. To facilitate trade, UN Trade and Development leads a global transparency initiative to collect and disseminate regulatory information. The data is published online at https://TRAINSonline.unctad.org

The workshop brings together representatives of Nigerian regulatory authorities responsible for all trade related regulation in Nigeria for review and validation of the comprehensiveness of all collected regulations from each regulator.

  1. Capacity building for Resolution of AfCFTA Non-Tarriff Barriers

The AfCFTA Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) Online Reporting, Monitoring, and Elimination Mechanism (www.tradebarriers.africa) aims to, among others, contribute towards increasing intra African trade through identification and removal of the numerous non-tariff barriers to trade hindering smooth movement of goods across borders.

This web-based tool enables the private sector and traders from the African Continent to report any challenges encountered when trading goods across intra-African borders for example excessive delays, ad hoc fees at the border, cumbersome document requirements, restrictive product standards and regulations among others. The AfCFTA NTB Online Mechanism is open to all African business sectors: micro, small, medium and large companies, informal traders, women and youth business operators.

This workshop raises awareness among private sector participants on the opportunities for their businesses created by this mechanism. The workshop also provides a platform the open exchange of views with the public sector.
