Workshop on the Promotion of FDI in the Solar Energy Sector in Kenya

​UNCTAD, in partnership with the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest), organized a capacity building Workshop on the Promotion of FDI in the Solar Energy Sector in Kenya. The event, held in Nairobi, brought together senior staff members from KenInvest and its regional offices, the Ministry of Energy & Petroleum of Kenya, Kenya Power and the Kenya Electricity Generation Company.

During four workshop sessions, speakers from the Government, UNCTAD and UNDP provided their insights on the green investment opportunity, the development of solar energy projects and the role of investment promotion agencies (IPAs) in attracting FDI in the solar energy sector. UNCTAD also presented a draft Guide for Preparing and Promoting Solar Energy FDI Projects in Kenya. Senior investment promotion officials from Mauritius and South Africa shared their experiences and best practices in the development and promotion of the solar energy sector in their countries. The first ever grid-connected commercial solar energy project in Kenya at Strathmore University was also presented.
