UNCTAD will participate in the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2016, to take place from 3-5 October 2016 in Brasilia, Brazil.

This intervention will kick-start discussions on how information and communication technologies (ICT) can harness global challenges and sustainable development goals.

In particular, issues such as the impact of ICT on society and on the global economy, the roadblocks to fulfilling the promise of the Digital Age and how to make ICT more inclusive, will be addressed.  The role of the private sector in achieving e-trade for all will also be explored.

The WCIT will stage debates on the role of business leaders, best practices, policy challenges and opportunities, as well as digital inclusion and innovations.

The WCIT has taken place every two years since 1978. The WCIT is organized by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). WITSA is present in 82 countries, with the inclusion of members representing 90% of the global ICT market, as well as key global information technology companies.
