The United Nations Post-2015 Development Agenda, including a set of new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will shape national development plans and global development work in the short and long term.

The SDGs are intended to be universal goals for all UN members and will take up new global issues like climate change. This brings to the forefront the importance of coherence in domestic and international policy frameworks, and of coherence between public and private sector sustainable development efforts.

Issues to be addressed:

Trade offers tremendous potential as an enabler of the Post-2015 sustainable development agenda. The panel will explore how trade, both in policy and actual terms, may support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recasting the role of trade to help realize joint poverty alleviation and sustainable development objectives.

Concurrently, the panel will address the important role business has to play in operationalizing the final SDGs. To that end, the power of partnerships and opportunities for inclusion of the private sector in the means of implementation are critical elements to ensuring a coherent Post-2015 Agenda.

Speakers:

  • Mr. Guillermo Valles Galmés - United Nations Conference on Trade And Development (UNCTAD)

  • Mr. Friedrich Soltau - United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA)

  • Mr. Ricardo Meléndez-Ortiz - International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD)
