Executive Director of the UN’s World Food Programme looks forward to a ‘poverty free world’ in partnership with UNCTAD

16 June 2014

Fiftieth anniversary greeting from Ertharin Cousin of WFP underlines shared goal of achieving prosperity for all so no-one need go hungry.

Our heartiest congratulations to UNCTAD on completing 50 years of incredible work towards assisting developing nations in abolishing poverty and bringing opportunity as well as prosperity to all.

We are proud of our history of working with UNCTAD to carve out realistic humanitarian and development pathways for achieving a poverty and hunger free world within our lifetimes. We believe that together we can realize the Secretary-General's Zero Hunger Challenge of a world without stunted children; where everyone has access to food; agricultural systems are sustainable; small holder farmers are prosperous; and there is no wastage or loss of food.

We look forward to working with you in assisting developing nations to achieve their vision of equitable pro-poor economic growth embedded in the principles of development and social protection through trade and investment that lead to healthy and prosperous generations today and tomorrow.
