UNCTAD's policy research and technical assistance capabilities are of "critical relevance and value" both to developing countries and UN partners says UNDP Administrator and Chair of the UN Development Group

Special Message from Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator and Chair of the UN Development Group on the occasion of UNCTAD's 50th Anniversary

I am pleased to join others in celebrating fifty years of UNCTAD's contribution to trade and development.

UNDP's Human Development Report 2013, "The rise of the South: Human progress in a diverse World", identified integration in global markets as one of the drivers of significant progress in human development over the last two decades. When properly harnessed, trade and investment are essential components of inclusive growth, and the potential of trade for development grows when adapted to individual national contexts. In this way, UNCTAD's policy research and technical assistance are of critical relevance and value, not only to beneficiary countries, but also to its partners, including UNDP.

I am confident that under the leadership of Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi, UNDP and UNCTAD will continue to work well together to support inclusive growth and sustainable development.
