UNCTAD and the Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Dominican Republic met to strengthen COMPAL assistance on competition and consumer protection policies, to discuss the use of existing UNCTAD sectoral studies and areas for further studies.

The topics discussed were:
The need to disseminate the findings of the Sectoral studies prepared by UNCTAD in the markets of poultry, construction and transport.
The need to undertake additional market assessments in selected key sectors where there are some allegations of anti-competitive practices taking place such as Cement, Beer, Flour, among others.
The Minister kindly requested UNCTAD to bear in mind the organization of a public event on Competition Law and Policies in Dominican Republic by the end of 2013. The main event should be based on the critical findings of the sectoral studies carried out in 2011.
