United Nations Industrial Development Organization looks forward to partnership with UNCTAD in supporting the post-2015 sustainable development agenda

16 June 2014

UNIDO congratulates UNCTAD on its fiftieth anniversary by underlining shared aims in emphasizing industry and trade as elements of sustainable development.

Since its foundation in 1964, UNCTAD has played an important role in identifying and analyzing global challenges relating to industrialization, trade and development and to assist developing countries in mitigating their impact.

It is a great pleasure for me to congratulate UNCTAD on its 50th anniversary. The voice UNCTAD gives to developing countries on trade, industrial policies and investment-related matters is crucial in our globalized world.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which has a new mandate with a focus on inclusive and sustainable industrial development, views UNCTAD as a sister organization and a strong partner. Together we can further support the post-2015 development agenda and the discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by emphasizing industry and trade as crucial elements of sustainable development.

I wish UNCTAD continued success in its work and am confident that our partnership will grow stronger every year.
