The Global Carbon Market Network (GCMN) is a UNCTAD-convened, market-oriented, multi-stakeholder platform that brings together carbon exchanges, financial institutions, investors, project developers, standard setters, market infrastructure providers, and other key stakeholders to strengthen carbon markets and mobilize investment and finance for climate action, particularly in developing economies.
The Network aims to support the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, facilitate cross-border investment in carbon credit projects, and foster credible, efficient and interconnected carbon markets through enhanced market integrity, greater alignment of standards and infrastructure, and financial and digital innovation.
The official launch of the GCMN at COP31 will bring together its Founding Members, international organizations and other partners to mark the establishment of the Network and outline its vision and priorities for future cooperation.
UNCTAD will present the Network's objectives, governance arrangements and initial programme of work. The Network's Co-Chairs and Founding Members will share their perspectives on key priorities and opportunities for collaboration, and highlight the Network's potential to strengthen carbon markets and mobilize climate finance for developing economies.
