Impact of Bali package on the post-2015 sustainable development agenda to be debated at second Geneva dialogue

Geneva, Switzerland, 2 April 2014

​The Second Geneva Dialogue is being convened by UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi in Room XXVI, Palais des Nations, at 10:00 on 4 April.

The theme of the event isThe Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda: The Road from Bali in reference to the Bali Package on trade facilitation agreed by members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in December 2013.

Topics to be discussed include the role of trade as an "enabler" in the achievement of inclusive and sustainable development, particularly in the formulation of the post-2015 development goals and the WTO post-Bali process.

The half-day meeting will feature addresses by Mr Robert Azevêdo, Director-General of the WTO and Mr Tofail Ahmad, Minister of Commerce of Bangladesh.

Among other panelists, the dialogue will hear from Mr Kwok Fook Seng, Ambassador of Singapore to the WTO and the Chair of the WTO Committees on Trade and Development, and Dr Craig Vangrasstek of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

The Second Geneva Dialogue is a continuation of the informal and open multi-stakeholder dialogue on the post-2015 development agenda with member States, international organizations, the private sector and civil society which began with the First Geneva Dialogue convened by Dr Kituyi in November 2013.
