UNCTAD, MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION SIGN
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

UNCTAD signed on 12 April 2007 a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian statutory body Yayasan Sabah under which UNCTAD will enhance the capacity of Yayasan to carry out strategic development projects in the State of Sabah in eastern Malaysia.
The MoU was signed by UNCTAD´s Chief of Technical Cooperation and Yayasan´s Group Manager of Human Resources and Administration. Present at the ceremony in the Palais des Nations in Geneva were UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi and the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Musa Maji Aman.
Among the areas of cooperation included in the memorandum:
- Training activities on key issues of the international economic agenda;
- Promotion of the creation of sustainable support structures for small- and medium-sized enterprises in connection with UNCTAD´s EMPRETEC programme;
- Trade facilitation, information telecommunication technology (ICT) and e-commerce;
- Trade and environment issues; and
- Implementation of an "e-tourism" platform.
