Policy strategies research and sharing to promote sustainable development for the Global South

In the last three decades, the international economic landscape has evolved to feature the economic rise of the Global South.

As of 2024, developing regions together account for approximately 40% of the world’s output, 44% of international trade, and 58% of foreign direct investment (FDI) inward flows. South-South merchandise trade represents over one-fourth of the world’s total, yet growth performance varies among developing countries. Some countries have significantly improved their productive capacity and raised income levels, while others still struggle to achieve these goals.

To reach their development objectives in a globalized world, it is crucial for Global South countries to adopt effective policy strategies that encompass both national development initiatives and integration efforts. Consequently, it is essential for these countries to enhance their knowledge and institutional capacities regarding policy formulation.

Project Objective

This project aims to help countries in the Global South devise better policy strategies through conducting research and analysis, transferring knowledge, sharing findings and experiences, and promoting peer learning among developing nations.

The project will organize two types of activities:

  1. Researching selected emerging economic and development policy issues.
  2. Organizing or participating in global and regional economic forums or events that facilitate peer learning of policy strategies and promote more inclusive global economic governance.
