UNCTAD AT SÃO PAULO AND BANGKOK - OUTCOMES AND MANDATES

UNCTAD X AND XI

The eleventh session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development was held in São Paulo, Brazil, in June 2004. Upon the completion of its work, the Conference adopted a declaration, entitled UNCTAD XI - The Spirit of São Paulo, as well as The São Paulo Consensus, in which member States undertook a policy analysis and agreed upon policy responses and UNCTAD´s contribution in each area of UNCTAD´s activity.

At the same time, the Conference noted that the Bangkok Plan of Action, which had been adopted at the tenth session of the Conference in Bangkok in February 2000, should continue to guide UNCTAD´s work in the years to come. These three texts therefore form the basis for UNCTAD´s current activities, and they are reproduced here for ease of reference and as a working tool for all those closely involved in UNCTAD activities or in areas of work related to UNCTAD mandates.
