Mr. Renaud Massenet currently leads the ASYCUDA Programme at UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Having served as Deputy Head of the Programme from 2017 to 2023, and as Head since 2024, he is instrumental in steering ASYCUDA’s strategic direction to meet the evolving needs of customs administrations and international trade across UNCTAD’s membership.

His career began in the private sector, where he specialized in ICT and Business Intelligence, and contributed to the automation of government revenue and public expenditure processes from the mid-1980s. He later joined UNCTAD as Chief Technical Adviser for a customs modernization and automation project in Africa. Building on this experience, he was instrumental in establishing and managing ASYCUDA’s regional office for Asia and the Pacific, based in Kuala Lumpur, where he oversaw modernization and automation initiatives in more than 20 countries.

Mr. Massenet holds an advanced degree in Computer Science from the École Supérieure d’Informatique in France and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from Durham University in the United Kingdom. 

He has also pursued executive learning through MOOCs, completing courses on Gamification at the University of Pennsylvania and Leading Strategic Innovation in Organisations at Vanderbilt University.
