UNCTAD contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by:

  • Building capacity in developing countries on the use of appropriate investment and intellectual property (IP) frameworks to promote partnerships and the transfer of emerging technologies, e.g. pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, clean energy, information and communication technologies.
  • Advising developing countries on:

    • The role of investment and IP policies on emerging technologies.

    • IP implications of big data solutions and artificial intelligence and the application to public health.

  • Promoting cooperation on investment to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR), considering the specific situation in developing countries and the need to prevent stockouts of essential generic antimicrobial treatments.
