The IPR of Angola was undertaken in the context of the Train for Trade II project. Its findings and recommendations were discussed at a high-level national workshop. Held in the National School of Public Policies and Administration on 4 and 5 September 2019, it took place in the presence of H.E. Mr. Joffre Van Dúnem Junior, Minister of Trade, H.E. Mr. Manuel Neto da Costa, Minister of Economy and Planning, and H.E. Mr. Amadeu Leitão Nunes, Deputy Minister of Trade. Participants included representatives of public and private sectors, as well as development partners, including the UNRC in Angola and the European Union Delegation in Angola. The national workshop benefited from a wide media coverage.
The IPR focuses on overcoming legal and institutional challenges hampering the investment potential of Angola and proposes a strategy to attract more and better quality FDI in agribusiness. It was welcomed by all speakers, who highlighted the relevance of the recommendations and their alignment with the national development of the country, especially economic diversification, private sector development and sustainable growth. Several participants praised the relevance, technical knowledge and quality of presentations of the IPR. The recommendations of the report were welcomed by stakeholders, who indicated that it is exactly in line with Angola’s needs and ongoing reforms. The feedback received showed that more than 95% of participants who submitted the evaluation survey said that the findings of the report will be useful to their work.
Background
In the context of the EU-UNCTAD Joint Programme for Angola: Train for Trade II, UNCTAD will organize a national workshop to present the findings of UNCTAD’s research and policy analysis in the Draft Investment Policy Review (IPR) of Angola. The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade (MINCO) and the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Export of Angola (AIPEX). The objective of the workshop is to gather feedback from and discuss the IPR recommendations with national stakeholders, including envisaged follow-up steps.
